Going in to what is our biggest game of the season so far against Manchester City, a few of the Arsenal players have spoken about the clash with honest confidence. The only goalscorer in a 1-0 win at the Emirates in our last meeting with City, Mikel Arteta, was one of the players to do so.
He said that it was ‘still too early’ to talk about our title credentials and that ‘whatever happens on Sunday’ he doesn’t ‘think it’s going to change anything.’ adding that ‘if you get points there, and you win then you make a bit of a statement.’
‘It’s a huge test for us. We’ve been playing well. We played really good when we went to Liverpool – that’s a tough place to get three points but we did it.’
‘[This is] another test. Man City haven’t lost at home for a while. We know it’s going to be difficult but I’m sure they will be thinking the same thing.’
And after City’s defeat late on during the week vs Madrid, he expects them to come at us on Sunday. However, he suggests that City will be ‘a bit scared of us as well’ and so they should be after a pretty good start to the season to say the least.
Going into the weekends match, City have conceded 10 goals this season already, whereas we have conceded a mere 2. Hopefully our statistic stays in tact come Monday.
Aaron Ramsey also spoke about the game and our position as the underdog. ‘That is a good thing [that people doubt us] – we are just going about our business…quietly, and hopefully we can continue this good run and see where it takes us.’
‘We are confident at the moment and a few players have chipped in with goals this season. That has been an improvement on last year.’
‘It is important that everyone gets on, and that we know exactly on the pitch and we are confident. That is showing in the performances and results we are getting lately. We have tightened up at the back, and as a team defensively we are getting into better positions and I think that has shown so far. Everyone is confident and all looking forward to the next game.”
Don’t miss this.
